See MECU's poll
Once you have completed the minimum 4 week probationary period, please create a new topic in this area stating you would like to become an official voter. You may also wish to explain any possible questionable votes.

You should be willing to check in on the site often during your application period (the rest of the week) to answer any questions that pollsters have. Often times just explaining your reasoning behind a vote will clear up any confusion, but failing to respond to questions causes uncertainty and you will be less likely to succeed.

The request for official pollster status should be made by the end of Tuesday the week of your 4th consecutive vote and the poll should conclude by that Saturday (this is a setting when you create the topic, see more help in next post). The exception is for Pre-Season applications, where they should conclude the Saturday before first week of games. Contact an admin to find out this date, or take your best guess and an admin can always change it.

See the post below for an example on what to put in your new topic requesting permission.

See a real example: michiganfan1980's application

It is not necessary to post a link to your poll. There is always a link under your user name on the post here in the forums (look to the left, see where it says "See MECU's poll"? Click that to see my poll.)

All "no" votes should have a post explaining why, or the "no" vote may not count.

Official Pollster status will be granted, if passed by community consensus (minimum 60% "yes"), for the following week after the application. All previous probationary period votes will not be upgraded to official pollster status. All future votes will be official unless status is revoked or not entered in the official voting time window.

Users who joined in the 2007 season and submitted at least 1 poll are grandfathered in with a 3 week minimum vote requirement.

If you are applying under the Brandon Rule, please state this in the application.

We request you post your current location so that we may get a general idea of where folks are from. This is OPTIONAL but appreciated. The information is used like this: viewtopic.php?f=140&t=767 [only official pollsters can view this topic, thus your information is kept semi-secure]

New pollsters not applying under the Brandon Rule can easily apply by going to: http://www.bcsfanpoll.com/apply/ and clicking the single button. Users re-applying under the Brandon Rule can say so in the text area provided, and then must edit the post stating so in the title. It still should be easier than these instructions:

Example:
Quote:
I, [username], have 4 weeks of polls and hereby request to become an official pollster.

Vote Yes or No above. If you vote No above, you should post why below.

[optional statement about how you rank teams]
[optional]Location: Hometown, USA[/optional]

Underneath, in the poll creation section, it should look like this:

3 days if you create it on Tuesday, 4 days if on Monday, 5 if on Sunday. Note: Pre-season will likely be much longer. See post above.

I will edit/change the polling as needed. If you need help, let me know. Just do your best and I can correct any problems.

A great summary on what the site is about and what a good poll is:

You can rank based on whatever method you'd like, as long as it is unbiased, reasonable, and defensible.

Unbiased- Doesn't particularly favor/go against one specific team/conference/style of play/etc.
Reasonable- Based on some legitimate theory of best team. Not ordered on most special teams yards or alphabetically by middle name of starting Right Tackle.
Defensible- The most important, especially if you're applying for official status. Be able and willing to defend why you rank certain teams in certain places if asked, especially if they were controversial/unusual.
