No one is above this policy, including administrators and moderators. All members of the website are expected to follow the following Code of Conduct. This policy is retroactive to day 1 of the website, 2007. In effect, it always has been around, just never formalized. Use of the forums constitutes agreement and acceptance with the TOC, Privacy Policy, and this Code of Conduct.

  • Treat others with respect at all times. Personal attacks of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • Discuss issues, not people behind the issue. Keep the focus on team rankings and justifications, not opinions about people.
  • Assume good faith. It is hard to translate emotion behind text. When reading and getting upset about what someone said, pause, and re-read it. Assume they didn't mean it as a personal attack. Even if it is a personal attack, you must take the high road with any response. Who started it is not relevant.

Failure to follow the Code of Conduct will first result in a warning. A second offense may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forums. A third offense will result in a lifetime ban from the forums and website, and removal of official pollster status, and a block from any voting with that account. Consideration for the amount of time between offenses shall be considered. Prior offenses will fade away over time (no scarlet letter, but think months, not days).

Circumvention and Duplicate Accounts
Creating a new account to avoid the ban will not be tolerated. Discoveries of duplicate accounts by anyone at anytime, especially banned members, is grounds to have all accounts banned and blocked.

This is always open for discussion. If you have a suggestion about things to include, or to change the wording of anything in the Code of Conduct or with penalties or enforcement thereof, please feel free to speak up. This is a starting point for the CC, not the end all be all.

Suggestion for Use of Forums when encountering problems
Let's have fun here. If you find yourself typing a reply and are pissed off. Stop. Walk away. Save as a draft or on your local computer. Come back a day later and try again. Please feel free to contact MECU or any moderator about any post or topic. You can use the "Report Topic" button, or PM anyone directly or via e-mail: admin @ Reports received in any manner will be treated equally. Requests to remain anonymous will be honored. I hope that myself and other moderators would catch incidents before they are reported, but we may not see it the same way as you did, and we may not be on 24 hours a day.

Volunteer Moderators
Anyone who is interested in being a moderator to assist me in policing the forums, please send me a PM. Familiarity with the forum software would be a great plus, but not a requirement. This is a volunteer position, with no entitlements or status granted. We are all equals here (except for some pollsters don't count officially yet).

taytay24: If there was a fail-safe method--if you could get it absolutely right from the start--there would be no need to submit a new poll each week.
