I initially started this in the Week 10 discussion thread, but I did enough research for it to warrant its own topic, maybe.

In directional Michigan school news, Central came back down 14 in the 4th quarter to beat Western, 35-28. 14-point 4th quarter leads apparently don't mean much to the MAC Michigan schools these days, as Eastern similarly blew a 14-point 4th quarter lead to Northern Illinois last week, who ended up winning in overtime. Eastern is 2-6 and must now go on a 4-game tear if they want to play in a bowl this season, starting with fellow 2-6 (0-4) MAC West team Ball St tomorrow. The only team with a winning record they face in their last 4 games is Central Michigan, who only just went back over .500 with their win tonight. After Central the Eagles would face 3-6 Miami, OH, and 2-7 Bowling Green, putting their combined remaining opponents' record at 12-23. Considering the Eagles have lost their last 6 games by a combined 23 points, with 3 of those losses coming in overtime, to teams with a combined record of 37-13, it may not be outside the realm of possibility for Eastern to close out the season 4-0.

Western Michigan has what could be a must-win game next Wednesday against 2-7 Kent St if they want to make a bowl - their last two games of the season are against 6-2 Northern Illinois and 7-1 Toledo, both on the road (the only 2 teams undefeated in MAC play). Similarly, Central Michigan may have to beat Kent St to go bowling, as their other 2 games come against Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois.

It essentially comes down to the game next Wednesday between Eastern and Central - if Eastern can win there, I think all 5 Michigan teams go bowling for the first time ever.

The last time all 5 finished at least .500 was in 1972: Michigan went 10-1, Michigan St 5-5-1, Western 7-3-1, Eastern 6-4, Central 5-5-1. They have never all had 6+ wins in one season.

Eastern Michigan doesn't have any room for error, but they are better then their record. I actually watched their game tonight against Ball St. They looked like they could win out.

Welp, Eastern cut an 18 point lead down to 5 last night and had one last chance to win it, until Brogan Rowback threw a terrible pick-6 for his 5th interception of the game. All Michigan schools besides Eastern will go bowling, making it the 3rd straight year 4 out of 5 Michigan schools will have made it.
